Parrot Diet - Additives and Supplements
We all like to make sure that our parrots are being kept fit and healthy. To ensure this, a balanced parrot diet is very important for your parrots physical and mental wellbeing. A mixed parrot seed diet is often not enough as some of our parrots can be very fussy and only pick out selective seeds and nuts
Calcivet
and tend to leave the rest ; hence a poor diet which can lead to health problems.

Mineral Block

Here are some suggestions to supplement your parrots food.

You can add ; fresh vegatables raw or cooked ; fresh fruit ; Tip - (never give your parrot avocado ; rhubarb or mushrooms) these are all poisonious to parrots particularly avocado and can be fatal if given either accidently or without Prior knowledge.

Fresh soft food will obviously give your parrot a good addition on top of the seed diet. Fresh Veg and Fruit is probably the easiest foods you can give and contains loads of extra minerals and vitamins that are essential to your parrots good health.

Hanging a mineral / calcium block in your parrots cage can keep your parrot busy and aid them in having healthy bones and muscels.

Adding cage / and aviary multi- vitamin drops or a sprinkling of vitamin powder to there water or food each day will also help ensure that your parrot is receiving there daily vitamins and calcium helping to keep both the skeletal system and muscles healthy, also promoting and aiding a good nervous system.
Vitamin Drops
Also helping to ward off infections which all play a part in keeping your baby Well, Happy and healthy .

Giving Vitamins and Supplements to your parrot is of course a personal choice. There are however occasions when supplements are given on advice from your vet. This of course would be due to a lack of certain minerals, sometimes to help with the pain and discomfort of a moult.

There are also certain species of parrot that will benefit from extra supplements of calcium for example. African Grey Parrots have been known to do better with a Calcium supplement. It would of course be wise to consult your avian vet if you suspect any deficiancy in any vitamins or minerals.

There are lots of people who you could consult before giving any extra supplements on top of the parrots regular diet. All reputable supplier and distributor of parrot additives and supplements should have a knowledge of the product they sell and will give you the best advice. Again if unsure consult your vet.

Its good to remember that actually a good avian vet will be able to supply you with products that are suitable for your parrot also. Or at least recommend a suitable brand.
